Watford Men’s team march on in Winter League Div One with victory over Bexley….

Our Men’s team beat Bexley at Woodside last night in their latest Winter League Div One fixture winning the match 19-13.
The team are now third in the league on 8 points, four off leaders Sutton & Cheam but with a game in hand and five games to play, four away it will be these games that will determine how good a season we will have.Qtr scores were: 5-6, 2-3, 4-3, 8-2.Bexley fielded three London 2012 Olympians in their side last night, Sean King, Jack Waller and Goalie Ed Scott who played outfield, King, captain of the Kent side  was Bexley’s leading scorer with six and was a tough opponent to handle and his team lead by one going into the last quarter at 11-12 but an eight goal blitz from Watford finally took the game away from the Kent side at 19-13.

The score edded and flowed between the two sides at the start of the match as Watford took an early 3-1 lead only to be pegged back at 5-5, Bexley then scored with 10 secs of the first qtr remaining for 5-6. A first quarter hat-trick from Watford new boy Ramon Fernandez gave an impressive start on his Watford debut.

A goal at the start of the second period from Jason Attwood had the sides level again at 6-6 but a King lob shot had Bexley back in front 6-7. Cameron Baker then equaliser again at 7-7 from a man-up. With 1.44 to play until Half time a quick couple of goals from Olympians King and Scott had their side leading 7-9.

The start of the third period and it was important Watford won the swim off as they had conceded a man-down .07 secs to play at the end of the first half. Bexley won the swim-off and immediately called for a time-out.

King organised his troops well and set up a perfect 6 v 5 attack and working the ball round the arc and then into the pit Olympian Ed Scott had a tap in for 7-10.

Was the game now running away from Watford not a chance as the team responded with three goals in 2.20 secs to level at 10-10. Ramon Fernandez, Zach White & Steven Behr drawing their side level once again.

Bexley responded with a goal from King for 10-11 but back cam Watford for 11-11 via another Attwood goal, a nice turn and shot into the bottom corner. With the third period coming to a close another Bexley goal had them back in front at 11-12.

Into tne final period and Watford levelled again this time via our very promising Junior Adam Page at 12-12. A goal 40 secs later from Zach had Watford leading 13-12, another goal from King had his side level at 13-13 but then in a crazy 3 min spell Watford hit six unanswered goals to take yhe game away from Bexley at 19-13. A double from Attwood & goals from Sam Hanrahan,  Baker, Danny Davis and George Sadler did the damage. A consolation goal from King for his sixth wasn’t enough as Watford won their second game of the season and remain undefeated.
