Our Men’s 2ndteam recorded their second home win of the campaign to move into second spot in the London League Div One table..
Quarter Scores were – 2-3, 5-3, 3-3, 6-4
The game began with both sides missing early chances but with 2.42 played Watford’s won a man-up & from the extra man play Watford’s Wayne Davis found the net for 1-0. Penguin responded & within two minutes had snatch the lead at 1-2. With the quarter coming to a close Watford levelled via Matt Irish but with only .01 second to play Penguins were back in front at 2-3.
The second period started with Penguins increasing their lead to two at 2-4 but then Watford hit a purple patch and scored four unanswered goals for a 6-4 lead. Andy Holt with the first then Richard Hime levelled from close range at 4-4. A double from Adam Page that were two brilliant break-away goals gave us the lead. Penguin then re-grouped and responded with two goals inside 46 seconds to level the game at 6-6 but with the referee about to signal half time a Danny Davis shot found the back of the net for a slender lead at 7-6.
Into the third period & Penguin were first to strike goal for 7-7. They then won a penalty on their next attack which keeper Chris Jones saved. This spurred his side on & a double from Holt within 50 seconds play had his side 9-7 up. Penguin again responded for 9-8 but Watford then earned a Man-up, from the advantage scored via George Szemere for 10-8. With time on the clock running down Penguins again reduced the deficit to within one for a 10-9 scoreline at the end of the 3rdperiod.
The final period started with Watford’s Page scoring another break-away goal for 11-9, further Watford pressure resulted in Holt adding another for 12-9. Penguins found the net moments later for 12-10 but then another purple patch with three unanswered goals extended Watford’s lead at 15-10, Hime, Holt & Danny Davis doing the damage. With 2.30 mins to play Penguin started a three goal response in an effort to pull level and with only .41 seconds remaining they had reduced the deficit to within two at 15-13 but with time running out Penguin committed a major foul and from the man-up Paul Skerm converted to seal the match at 16-13.
