This weekend (16th & 17th Feb) our Men’s 1st team are back in BWPL Championship Two action as they travel to Gloucester to take on Worthing on Saturday afternoon and then Southampton on Sunday lunchtime.
Following the opening round of three London derby victories against Croydon, WL Penguins & London Otter back in mid January the team sit joint top of the table behind City of Bristol on goal difference.
Saturday’s match against Worthing will be tough as the Sussex based side are currently in third place having won two of their opening three matches and are only two points off Watford and victory would see them swap places in the table.
With the top three sides in the table gaining promotion back to Division Two for the start of the 2019/20 season in September a victory on Saturday would see Watford only needing another victory on Sunday against Southampton who have lost their opening two league fixtures.
In the days since the last round of matches Watford have suffered several injuries to key players but with a number of new recruits in the ranks the team are feeling confident ahead of the weekend.
Following Wednesday’s Winter League victory over Div One side Bexley that saw several 1st team players come through the match in good form Head Coach Edi Brkovic had this to say:
“We had a great first round of results and getting those three wins has set us up nicely for this weekend, but we face a strong Worthing side who defend very well, we need to be patient and focus on our game. We have a good team and the new recruits gave us another dimension as they are quick and fast. If we get a win on Saturday we will be in a strong position to get promotion”.
