Congratulations to our Under 15 Girls National Age Groups (NAGS) team who put in an incredible performance on Sunday (14th October at the Manchester Aquatic centre to be ranked 5th in the country for 2018.
This young team of 11 players whose ages range from birth year 2004-2006 fought some incredible battles to achieve this amazing result with coach Tim Whitwham at the helm.
Although we had some players with game experience many of them are still new to competitive waterpolo including Katie who has only been playing waterloo for the past eight weeks.
We knew our group would be a challenge which was confirmed as the two other teams in our group progress to the final. Saying that the overall winners City of Sheffield were held by our young side for much of the first half of 8mins and at the break we trailed by the odd goal in seven at 3-4. Game finished 3-5 to Sheffield, our team play and growing confidence at the start of the match enabled the team to take a two goal lead – which totally threw the opposition.
In the other group games Watford beat Otter Futura 13-2 but lost to Cheltenham 3-11. Finishing third in the group meant they would play off against Iceni (East Region, regional team) for a place in the 5th/6th qualification match. In a game that was one sided our young Watford team ran out winners 14-1.
Now into that 5th/6th qualification match against Nova Centurions and a tight game ensued as the teams fought out a 3-3 draw & penalties were required to separate the teams, Watford won the penalty shoot out to be finish 5th overall in their first season of National Age Group Competition.
One of the referees approached the team at the end of the tournament to congratulate them on how much they had grown in confidence during the day.
A massive thank to to Tim, parents, grandparents and siblings who supported them unconditionally throughout the day.
