Our U16′s started their 2018/19 season with three wins & a loss on Sunday as the team beat both Northampton and Penguin & were awarded a “Win” over Enfield who failed to attend the opening round.but lost to Chelmsford in a close tense final match.
Watford U16′s opened their account on Sunday afternoon by beating Northampton 5-3 the team were always in control of the match as Zac Kovacs scored four & Max Cohen netted the other.
The team’s next match was against hosts West London Penguin Latymer and the hosts got off to the perfect start winning the first half 1-0.
Coach George Sadler got to work on his side at half time and his pep talk did the trick as the team levelled via Elias Thierry however Penguin were back in front shortly after before a four goal salvo from his charges took the game away from Penguins at 5-2, a double each from Kovas & Max Dingle did the damage.
The final game of the afternoon was against Essex side Chelmsford and Watford’s Dingle got his side off to the perfect start however a lack ofcontrol in defence allowed Chelmsford to snatch a 1-3 lead at half time.
The second half began with Thierry reducing the deficit to one at 2-3 for his side but moments later Chelmsford were afforded too much room in front of goal and they re-stored their two goal advantage at 2-4 before another Thierry goal had Watford back at 3-4. With the game entering the last few minutes Watford won a man-up but couldn’t make their extra man advantage tell and with Chelmsford back in possession they broke forward and scored again for 5-3.
Watford will have a chance to extract revenge on Chelmsford in the next round of matches to be held in March.
Coach George Sadler commented after Sunday’s round of matches: ‘The boys worked hard and put in strong performances in all three matches. While the Chelmsford game was a step too far having played Penguin just before, the team created a lot of chances and could’ve got a result on a different day. Overall the experience will leave a good set of players in good stead going forward.’
Our U16′s squad for this Sunday is:
Elias Thierry, Arav Bhatia, Max Cohen, Luka Atkinson, Max Dingle, Zac Kovacs, Dillan Velani, Mark Markov, Tobias Molnar, Yiannis Shamtani.
