Saxons win again to lead Div Five table…

Our Men’s BWPL Saxon’s team won their second game of this season’s BWPL Div Five with a far more assured & comfortable display against Old Foes Bedford.

The team won 19-2 winning each quarter 5-0, 4-1, 4-1, 6-0 and now sit top of Div Five after the first weekend of action.

Compared to Saturday’s nervy win over Chelmsford this match was chalk & cheese as our press in defence didn’t give Bedford any room to get a shot on target & when they did manage to get a shot off Chris Jones in goal made some regulation saves in fact the two goals that Bedford did score came via a very debatable penalty & a counter attack goal.

Max Cohen scored on debut for Saxons..

In attack we were firing on all cylinders with eight different goal scorers included debutant Max Cohen who score within 10 seconds of being in the water.  Other notable players to mention were George Sadler who scored a hat-trick in 1.48 mins just before half time to extend his sides lead to 9-1.

Half Time & Saxons lead 9-1.

Matt Irish scored four to add to his tally of three from Saturday. Luke Sperry scored a hat-trick with a goal in the first, second & fourth periods, Alex Norcliffe hit a double and goals from Craig Nicholls (His first for the club in BWPL) & Josh Silverbeck all made the score sheet.

Our other Junior debutant Zac Corcoran had a good solid game & came close on a couple of occasion to scoring that will come as he gets into some good shooting positions. Captain Steve Brasso had a solid game breaking up play in defence & turning defence into attack on several occasions.

All round the team put in a shift in defence and when Bedford ran out of possession time we countered & scored on a regular basis.

The team now have a three week break before heading off to Ponds Forge Sheffield (13th/14th Oct) and will play British Army & Sheffield Dolphins. One more win & the team will have achieved their first objective of the season and that was to make the top five in the division & make the cut for Phase Two and Championship Four.

All in all it was a good weekend, Head Coach Edi was pleased but we still have room to improve especially in attack were we can improve our shooting.

Team for today’s match was:

Chris Jones (GK), Alun Dorrington, Alex Norcliffe, Adam Nash, Craig Nicholls, George Sadler, Josh Silverbeck, Zac Corcoran, Luke Sperry, Matt Irish, Matt Smith, Max Cohen, Steve Brassington.
