Watford have lost to Sutton & Cheam in the final back in 2016 and the quarter-finals in 2017 so this   game was a chance for the team to get one over on our rivals.

Qtr scores were 4-4, 4-2, 2-3, 2-0.

Nándor Cseh was our leading goalscorer with a goal in each qtr.

The game opened at a frantic pace with both sides creating chances but with both teams fielding their GB International Goalies chances were hard to come by until 90 seconds into the game Watford forced a Man-up play and from the extra man advantage the ball was fed round the arc to Andy Holt on the left wing who score the first goal of the evening. Sutton responded 13 seconds later to level at 1-1. Back came Watford and when Will Eggleton found a little bit of space on the 5m line he scored to give his side a 2-1 lead.

Another Man-up for Watford 30 seconds later allowed Holt to hit his second of the night & his teams third for 3-1. Sutton quickly responded for 3-2 but a goal from Nandi Cesh his first of the evening restored the two goal lead at 4-2. With the quarter coming to a close the visitors stepped up the pace and inside 24 seconds had levelled the game at 4-4.

The second period got underway with Sutton again conceding a major foul and Watford’s Danny Davis scored from 5m for 5-4. However Sutton again responded and a quick fire double from their centre forward Chris Evans had then in front at 5-6. A flurry of majors came and went with chances missed by both sides but with 3.57 of the half to play another Danny Davis goal had his side level again at 6-6. More chances came & went until with only 35 seconds to play another man-up allowed Holt to score his third for 7-6 then with 15 seconds remaining Sutton had another man-out, Watford coach Edi Brkovic called a time-out and from the re-start the team worked a move around the arc to find Nandi who fired in with one second remaining for a half time lead at 8-6.

The second half got off were the first half had finished with another Nandi Cseh goal for 9-6. Sutton then responded after Watford conceded a major foul for 9-7. On the next attack Watford won a penalty Adam Page stepped up but a great save from Matt Holland in the Sutton goal kept out the effort but from the rebound Sam Carling slammed home for 10-7. But with 2.36 in the third period to play Sutton hit back to close the gap to within one at 10-9 with a couple of goals.

The final period and Sutton started the quarter pushing to level the game but some solid defending and excellent goalkeeping from Peter Pickford kept them out. With 4.13 of the match to play another Cseh goal his fourth of the evening had his side two goals clear at 11-9. With the clock ticking down further Sutton chances were missed & with 48 seconds remaining a gaol from Paul Skerm sealed the match at 12-9.

The team will now play either Guildford or Reading in the semi-finals at Woodside for a place in the final, the game will be played in early September.
