Men’s 1st team advance to Ref’s Cup Final after comfortable win over Croydon…

Our men’s 1st team have once again made into the Referee’s Cup final for the second season in a row after a comfortable 11-4 win over fellow Premier Division side Croydon Amphibians at Whitgift School on Monday evening…
The team’s recent history in the Ref’s Cup over the last five years is very impressive having won the cup in 2015, we also finished runners up in 2016 & 18′ and were Quarter-finalists in 2017.

Hopefully we can go one better in this year’s final when we will play the winners of the Reading v Guildford semi-final.

Last night’s match was an even affair in the opening quarter as we sneaked a one goal advantage at 2-3. We were twice pegged back in the early exchanges at 1-1 & 2-2 before a late goal from Zach White gave us that slender lead. Tom Kelly opened the scoring for Watford following a man-up advantage and Andy Holt had his side 2-1 up again from a man-up advantage.

The second quarter started with Watford winning a penalty dispatched by Kelly for 2-4. The next attack saw Croydon win a major foul and from the man advantage they scored for 3-4. Some excellent saves from Joe Hansen-shearer in the Watford goal and some resolute defending kept Croydon out as they pushed for an equaliser but with .44 seconds remaining until half time George Sadler found time and space to move his side two clear at 3-5.

The second half saw Watford dominate in defence and restricted Croydon to only a solitary goal in two periods as we add a further six with Zach, Andy and George scoring one apiece in the 3rd qtr for an 4-8 lead.

In the final period Holt scored a double before Zac Corcoran scored the final goal for a resounding Semi-final win 4-11.

Team v Croydon;
