An away day victory over Beckenham lifts 1st team to second in Premier League…

Our Men’s 1st team moved up to second in the London League Premier Div after beating Beckenham at West Wickham Pool last night 13-19.


The team played well winning each qtr 3-4, 3-4, 3-4, 4-7.

The game began with Beckenham scoring first but we responded to level at 1-1, Beckenham then worked themselves into a 3-1 lead after some lapses in the Watford defence however with 4 mins of the period remaining we hit three unanswered goals to snatch the lead at 3-4. Our goals came via a Zach White double and efforts from Jack Warman and Cameron Baker.

The second period saw the host level at 4-4 but a penalty converted by James Warman and a breakaway goal from Adam Page on the eve of his 18th Birthday had us 4-6 in front again Beckenham hit back and levelled the game once again at 6-6 but another goal from James from man-up and a neat 2m goal from John Pickford had us two clear st HT at 6-8.

At the start of the 3rd period Beckenham scored to reduce the deficit at 7-8 but our attack was now starting to find holes in the Beckenham defence and a double from Page in 23 seconds had hos side three up at 7-10. With three mins remaining in the quarter both sides traded goals upto 9-12. The two Watford efforts came via Andy Holt and a John Pickford penalty.

The final period and Beckenham came out of the blocks all guns blazing and scored twice to pull within one at 11-12. It was vital we got the next goak and from a man-up advantage James Warman found the back of the net for 11-13.

A double from Zach soon after either side of a Beckenham goal had Watford three ahead at 12-15. With the hosts still pushing they forced a penalty of their own on they nect attack and converted for 13-15.

With 3.27 mins remaining Watford went on tbe attack and scored four unanswered goals to finish tje game off at 13-19. Our four goals came via Jack Warman,  Tom Kelly, Andy Holt and Zach White for his sixth of the evening.

A comfortable win in the end which moves us to second in the table three points off leaders Sutton and Cheam and with a game against Sutton coming up next Wednesday a win will put us in a strong position to push for the league title.
