2nd team win to maintain push for title…..

Watford 2nds finished their Winter League Div Two home campaign on Sunday evening (25th March) with another win this time against local rivals Enfield to maintain their push for the Division Two title..


The team needed to win their final home game to ensure the final game of the season away to London Otter on Thursday 29th March would mean a win over Otter would guarantee the title in a twist of fate if Otter win they will win the tile instead.

The team on Sunday against Enfield was:

Chris Jones (GK), Adam Page, Matt Irish, Peter Pickford, John Pickford, Neil Haftel, Steve Brassington, Matt Molnar, Luke Sperry, Sam Carling, Will Morris, Alex Norcliffe.

Qtr scores – 2-1, 3-1, 5-2, 5-2 – Final score 15-6.

In a game that the team controlled from start to finish it started well with a quick fire double from Durham Uni student Sam Carling. Further chances in the first quarter weren’t taken and with only 8 seconds remaining a Major foul allowed Enfield to pull a goal back at 2-1.

Into the second period and Enfield briefly levelled the game at 2-2 after only 45 seconds play but Watford then stepped up a gear and with goals from Adam Page, Carling & Luke Sperry the team took a three goal lead at half time at 5-2.

The second half and Watford increased their lead with two goals inside 54 seconds via John Pickford & Neil Hafted. Enfield pulled one back soon after before goals from John Pickford, Alex Norcliffe & Carling took the game away from Enfield. In between the three goals Enfield scored their fourth of the night to end the 3rd quarter 10-4.

The final period & an early major foul allowed Enfield to pull another goal back at 10-5 but Watford then hit the gas & scored three further goals in 69 seconds via Haftel, Page & John Pickford to extend the lead to 13-5. With 3.52 to play an Enfield Major Foul gave John Pickford his fourth goal of the evening for 14-5,  Enfield then scored their sixth for 14-6 but right on the last minute bell Carling hit his fifth of the evening to close the game out at 15-6.

A big win to keep the title hunt alive & now on to Thursday evening & that winner take all match against London Otter…
