The quarter scores were 3-4, 3-4, 3-4, 4-2.
A very close game ensured against an excellent Bexley side that featured four of the starting seven for Invicta in the British Water Polo League who finished last season as runners-up in the Super 5′s their best achievement for many seasons.
Also 3 of the players in the Bexley side last Wednesday were ex- 2012 London Olympians (Sean King, Jack Waller & Edi Scott) & along with Callum Bailey an outstanding player, we pushed them all the way to the final whistle.
With Watford fielding a young side, the team found themselves mid-way through the second half five goals behind but they clawed it back to within two at the start of the final period at 10-12 via a smart Josh Brown shot, an error on a man-up gave Bexley an opening which they exploited to go 10-13 up BUT again our young side responded to pull a goal behind at 12-13 thanks to a seven metre shot from Akos Sahin-Toth.
With two minutes of the game remaining we still had chances to level the match and go on to win but another error allowed Bexley to score again on the break but from the re-start we scored again via Cami Baker but it was too late and with time up we lost by one. 13-14.
Having progressed to the semi-finals of the Ref’s Cup the team will play the winners of the Blue Marlins v Croydon quarter final for a place into the 2019 Final.
Overall it was a great team performance and games like this against strong opponents can only help the team prepare for the new BWPL season..
